Chrona: Time Tracker
Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
The short version
- Chrona does not collect, transmit, sell or share your personal data.
- Everything you enter is stored only on your device. The app has no internet permission and cannot connect to the internet.
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking or third-party SDKs.
- The app is provided “as is”, without warranties. You are responsible for your data, your backups and how you use the times you record.
1. Information the app handles
To work as a time tracker, Chrona stores the information you choose to enter:
- Time entries: descriptions, start and end times, billable flags, and the project and tags attached to them.
- Projects, clients and tags, including their names, colours and settings.
- App preferences such as theme, dynamic colour and the first day of the week.
This information is kept in a local database and preferences file on your device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. We (the developer) have no access to it.
Please avoid entering sensitive personal information (for example health, financial or identity details) in descriptions or names. The app does not need it and does not treat any field specially.
2. What we do not collect
Chrona does not request the Android internet permission, so it cannot send data off your device. In particular, it does not:
- require an account, sign-in, email address or phone number;
- collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, location, contacts, photos or files;
- use analytics, crash reporting, advertising or other third-party SDKs;
- use cookies or any form of tracking;
- sell, rent or share any data with third parties.
If you contact us by email, we will receive your email address and whatever you choose to write, and use it only to reply to you.
3. Permissions
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): used only to show the running timer with a live clock and a Stop button. You can deny or revoke it in Android settings; the app keeps working without it.
Chrona requests no other permissions.
4. Export and import files
From Settings you can export all your data to a single JSON file, or import one. Both use the standard Android file picker: you choose where the file goes and which file is read, and the app accesses only that file.
An exported file contains your data in plain, unencrypted text. Once you save or share it (for example to cloud storage, email or a messaging app), it is outside Chrona’s control and subject to the terms and privacy policies of the service you use. Keep exported files somewhere you trust.
Import in “Replace” mode deletes the data currently on the device and replaces it with the contents of the file. Make sure you have a copy of anything you want to keep.
5. Android device backup
Chrona allows Android’s built-in backup and device-to-device transfer. If you have turned on backup in your device settings, Android may include the app’s data in the backup stored in your Google account, or copy it to a new phone during setup. This is performed by Android and Google, not by Chrona, and is governed by your device settings and Google’s Privacy Policy. You can turn it off in your device’s backup settings.
6. Your control and deletion
Because your data lives only on your device, you are in full control of it:
- Edit or delete individual entries, projects, clients and tags in the app.
- Delete everything by clearing the app’s storage (Android Settings → Apps → Chrona → Storage → Clear storage) or by uninstalling the app.
- Remove copies held in an Android backup through your Google account’s backup settings.
We hold no copy of your data, so we cannot view, correct, export or delete it on your behalf, and we cannot recover it if it is lost.
7. Security
Your data is protected by Android’s app sandbox, which prevents other apps from reading it, and by your device’s lock screen and encryption. Chrona does not add its own encryption. Anyone who can unlock your device can open the app and see your data, and exported files can be read by anyone who obtains them.
8. Children
Chrona is a general productivity app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Chrona is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of bugs.
We do not warrant that times, totals, reports or billable amounts shown by the app are accurate or complete. The app may be affected by device clock changes, time-zone changes, battery optimisation, the system stopping the app, operating system updates, or software defects.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will the developer be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, profits, business or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the app, including errors in recorded time, lost or corrupted data, failed exports or imports, or decisions, invoices or payments based on the app’s output, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. In those jurisdictions the exclusions and limitations above apply to the greatest extent the law allows, and nothing in this document limits any rights you have that cannot be waived by law.
11. Your responsibilities
- Backups. You are responsible for keeping backups of your data. Uninstalling the app, clearing its storage, losing or resetting your device, or importing in Replace mode can permanently delete it.
- Billing and legal records. Chrona is a personal tracking tool, not an accounting, payroll, timesheet-compliance or legal record system. Check any figures before using them for invoices, wages, taxes, contracts or other obligations. You alone are responsible for those uses.
- Content. You are responsible for the information you enter and for complying with any obligations you have toward clients, employers or other people whose details you record.
- Lawful use. Use the app only in compliance with applicable laws.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this document, for example if the app gains new features such as cloud sync. Any change will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a future version starts handling data differently, this policy will describe it before or at the time that version is released. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated document.
13. Contact
